Digital Detective

Digital Detective is a digital preservation mystery game for 2-6 players.

Each Digital Detective aims to be the first to solve the mystery about an important digital record! • Which Archive Client is the record for? • What Media holds the digital files? • Which Laboratory is needed to address a tech challenge to providing access?

Exploring the Digital Preservation Lab and asking questions of other players will give each Digital Detective part of the picture – until someone is able to deduce the 3 facts that are represented by the 3 cards placed in the Case File Envelope at the start of the game.

The goal of this game is to introduce those not familiar with the challenges of digital preservation to the basic aspects that inform the work of preserving and providing access to born-digital records.
